Also expected Monday — an announcement that former U.N. Ambassador and Energy Secretary in the Clinton administration, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, will be Commerce Secretary.
This one actually seems like a good move. It doesn’t hurt us because the Democratic Lt. Governor Diane Denish will take over and she was probably our nominee for Governor in 2010 anyway.
An incumbent office holder picked for a job that doesn’t cost us a seat to the republicans for either the present or the immediate future?
Swell!
I would have pictured him more at Interior than Commerce.
Just announced on the Murdoch Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/article/…
This morning when I turned on the TV was some moron asking why Obama hadn’t picked a Hispanic. Guess they can stfu now…
So let’s hope he doesn’t screw it up.
While it’s certainly not one of the more glamourous posts, the Commerce Dept does oversee some rather important agencies. They oversee NOAA, which will be an important agency when it comes to climate change. The dept also oversees the National Marine Fisheries Service (which, IMO, should be under Interior), and with global fish populations crashing, that’s another agency we may be hearing a little more from.
